4199 - Special Education Policy Statement

  1. PURPOSE AND PHILOSOPHY
    The primary purposes of this local education agency (LEA) policies and procedures manual are:
    1. To ensure that all students with disabilities ages 3 through 21 in Weber School District have available to them a free appropriate public education (FAPE) that emphasizes special education and related services, as specified on an Individualized Education Program (IEP) designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living;
    2. To ensure that the rights of students with disabilities and their parent(s) are protected;
    3. To ensure that State standards are implemented for the provision of a FAPE to students with disabilities, as defined in Utah State Board of Education Special Education Rules (Rules); and
    4. To assess and ensure the effectiveness of efforts to educate students with disabilities.

  2. POLICY
    It is the policy of the Weber School District to adhere to and comply with federal and state laws and rules as they pertain to students with disabilities and the provision of a free, appropriate, public education to all students within the school district’s jurisdiction.

  3. PROCEDURES 
    Weber School District procedures (July 2023) are on file at the Utah State Board of Education, the Weber School District Special Education Department, and on the Weber School District Special Education Department web page.
